ZINNIA 

In summer, zinnias fill the garden with Melinda Bula’s new fusible flower pattern. You will learn Melinda’s technique for painting with fabric and thread - no paint!  It’s all in the values of the fabric colors you choose.  Remember, zinnias come in an array of colors. Melinda will help you make a color chart with the fabrics you bring. There is a color chart that comes with the supply list to assist you in choosing your fabrics.  Use the value changes on the color chart to help you if you change the flower colors. This is like a paint-by-numbers pattern but with plenty of room to add your own creative expression. This class is great for all skill levels and wonderful for someone who has never quilted before.

There is a $15 pattern fee for this class which includes the Zinnia pattern, 1/2 yard Steam-A-Seam 2, 18" wide and handouts on how to do Renegade Thread Play.

Sewing machine is not needed in class.

 

Supply List

Use the color chart to help you shop for fabric colors and yardage amounts

• 1 yd background fabric in a dark color

• Tweezers or stiletto to help you move small pieces around

• 1 yd clear plastic vinyl, medium weight - similar to the product used to protect table and chairs - we will use it to make a pattern overlay

• Straight pins with glass heads

• Sharp Scissors for paper and fabric

• Rotary cutter, rulers, and mat

• Sharpie markers, fine tip and bold tip, in black

• 4 yds Steam-A-Seam 2, preferably 18” wide

• Plastic baggie to keep your pattern pieces in

• Iron and ironing board (unless supplied by venue)

• Teflon pressing sheet (optional)

• Foam core board, size 19" x 24" to use as a design board (optional)

 

To Complete Your Quilt

• Sulky 30 weight thread in colors that match your quilt and background

• Jeans Denim needles or Top Stitch needles, in size 12/80 - 14/90

• Cotton thread for the bobbin in a 40 or 50 weight

• Extra bobbins

• 1 yd batting

• 1 yd backing fabric

• 3 yds of finish binding
