Renegade Thread Play

$15 kit fee of includes workbook, 1 spool of thread (your choice of color) and1 yard of Steam -A - Seam 2, 18" wide.

This is a technique class that will give you the ins and outs of how I do my Renegade Thread Play. This is different than most free motion as there is a trick to sewing through layers of fusible web.

 

Important Machine Talk Before Class!

You cannot learn free motion quilting on a sewing machine that you have not sewn at least one completed quilt on. Please do not bring your new machine that you just got.  It will be a disappointing waste of your valuable class time as I cannot help you with your machine because I only know about my old Bernina #153. You need to know how to thread it, how to drop the feed dogs and how to set your needle down position. You’ll need to know where the top thread tension is and how to adjust it. Also, how to turn it on would be a good thing. If you have to put a plastic shield over the feed dogs case to do free motion quilting this is not the best machine to use for smooth free motion quilting. Although I have done demos on this kind of machine, I want you to be successful, so please know how to work your machine.

 

Supplies

• Jeans Denim needle or Top Stitch needle, sizes 80/12 or 90/14

• 1 yd solid black fabric cut in half down the fold line. You will now have 2 piece of fabric that measure about 22” x 36”

• 1 yd cotton low loft batting. I use Quilter Dream Request. The batting should be at least 2 inches bigger than your black fabric on all sides.

• White chalk pencil

• Long straight edge ruler

• Medium size safety pins to pin the layers together

• Assorted scraps or fat quarters of at least 10 fabric colors you like. We will be making fusible shapes to sew on.

• 1 yard of Steam-A-Seam 2, for the scraps of fabrics. I will bring extra with me for purchase.

• Scissors for paper and fabric

• Straight pins

• Sharpie marker

• Pencil

• Free motion gloves or whatever you like to use on your hands for thread play.

• Extra bobbins

• Closed toe free motion foot or darning foot

 

This class is for you and I want to take the intimidation out of thread play. I will be there with you at every step so don’t worry.
