Flowers on the Lake     at Zephyr Point on Lake Tahoe

May 30 - June 3, 2011

It is our pleasure to invite you to our quilt art workshop, Flowers on the Lake on beautiful Lake Tahoe. This will be 5 days and 4 nights of creative exploration in a beautiful environment at Zephyr Point,  which is close to South Lake Tahoe on the Nevada side of the lake. The goal of the retreat is to inspire you on your creative path at whatever level you are at.  In this workshop you will have the option of bringing your own flower picture to develop into an art quilt like Melinda's award winning quilts or maybe you want to finish a flower quilt you started in another class. You also have the option, if you choose, to work from one of Melinda’s patterns . You can even bring something that you just want to finish or start that has nothing to do with my technique. This retreat is for you.

Every day there will be a new technique or fun project demonstrated, then the rest of the day is for you to work as you like.  Melinda will be there with you the whole time to help you bring your flower or quilt projects to life.  One day will be devoted to Renegade Thread Play, with a fun project to make and practice on.

Check-in is at 3:30 pm on May 30.  You will be assigned to your room and have time to set up you work space. A welcome meet and greet reception will be at 4:30  followed by dinner.  Then we will meet back in the classroom for a short lecture on starting your flowers.  You can wake up when you want and stay up as late as you like. The view from class room is breathtaking. What could be better than that?

There are fabric stores around the lake and you can always take side trips to downtown Tahoe for a little gambling.  Class starts at 9:00 am, but if your an early bird you start any time. the sewing really never stops. The only problem is that the view from our classroom may be a little distracting.   On the last day there is still be time to sew before and after breakfast with check out at 11:00 am.

 Why flowers?

I have been asked this question a lot . I have found that if you can create a flower and see all the colors and values in one flower petal you can paint anything. Studying the flower trains your eye to look at small details and focus. This skill can them be transferred to other subject matter. Plus, why not work from one of God’s most beautiful and colorful creations!
