Steam-A-Seam 2, 18” wide to get
you started.

needed but Renegade Thread Play is demonstrated in class.
Class Description:
Learn the basics for building a Fusible Flower quilt.
You will learn the steps of
developing a flower art quilt by how color works to make a
flower look real, how to use the fusible and lay out of design.
I encourage creativity while assisting those who may feel timid
about color and design. All skill levels can master these
flowers and make them their own. The students in class will get
80% of their flower done in class. Melinda will demo her
Renegade Thread Play
technique, which is a simple method of
free motion quilting This technique adds detail and highlights
to your flower quilt.
The flowers are done in pinks and fuchsia, but
could also be done in yellows or reds.
If not sure
about what is a light, medium or dark, bring what you like and
I will help you in class.
We will be
making your own personal color chart with your fabrics in class.
.Bring
to Class:
-
Background: You will
need a background fabric in a dark color (navy blue, black, dark
green or dark brown) cut to 18” x 22”.
-
Flower: 1/4 yd of 6
different pinks (or color of your choice) ranging from light to darks. If you are not sure,
bring more than you need and I will help you pick the right
colors for your flower. The book has a color chart to help.
-
Leaves: 3 greens for
leaves. See picture or color chart.
-
Center
of the flower: you will need 3 fabrics. Dark brown, medium
brown and orange. These can be 5"x 5" scraps. See picture or
color chart
-
Fusible Web: 3 yards
of Steam-A- Seam 2,
18” wide.
If all you can
find is in packages, bring at least 3 packs. I will bring some
to class for purchase if you can’t find it or you run out.
Make sure
it’s not the LITE.
There is a reason why I use
the Steam- A- Seam
2, so please don't
bring any other fusible web.
-
Tweezers
or stiletto, this is to help you move small pieces around
You will
also need:
-
Iron and
ironing pad. Some guilds/shops provide irons and board which is
great so you can have more room at your table.
-
Scissors.
They need to be sharp and comfortable. Large for cutting
out the fabric and paper scissors for paper.
-
18”x 24” foam core board -
this makes a nice portable design board for class. It also helps in transporting of your flower home. You
can get this at and office supply store or craft store.
-
Pencil,
marking pen (Sharpie) tracing paper, rotary cutter, cutting mat,
ruler,
Teflon pressing sheet
(optional)
and straight pins also are helpful.
